Last two months have been exciting for me. I am just all over the place, clueless what my next move would be! There are two projects that I am involved in at the same time with conflicting interests! First, more importantly of course, is the album mixing and then the eventual release and then second, equally important (he he), is the Kannada Movie Project ‘Psycho’ for which I am composing and directing music. Because I am the music director, I am also having a field day claiming ownership to sing atleast 4 songs…he he again!

While Raveolution Studios has been busy with churning out mixes of the album, I have been busy parallelly composing, sequencing and then of course fighting against the provided budget to get the best musicians, best studios, best engineers so that my music for ‘Psycho’ could sound good ;).

The process of composing and designing sound for Psycho is proving to be extremely challenging but yet very exciting. Till now I have never got involved so much into sound designing as much as I have for ‘Psycho’. Not only did I get to meet and work with some phenomenal musicians and technicians but also encountered the amazing technologies and software tools that have sprung up all over. And suddenly I felt small…like that ‘toad in the well’ feeling! Everyday I walk into the studios like a scared student trying to remember what I had learnt yesterday and then wondering whats in store today. Santosh is the guy who not only has helped me in getting the sequencing and programming in place, but also patiently taught me what goes into making a track sound ‘filmy’…what technically can be called ‘Cinematic sound’. Ofcourse, almost 80% o what he says goes above my head and overwhelms me that I automatically go numb! Phew!
Sandeep, my bandmate worked with me on a daily basis to get the interludes composed. Shiva, the drummer-band mate of RDP is helping me getting the rhythm section tight. Psycho has 6 songs and a theme instrumental track. I have tried different genres for each song. While the first song is somewhat an alternative rock song named ‘Neene Beku’ (= I want only you) in Kannada (not sure if you can imagine that!), the second song Mahadeswara is an interesting song. Its a Kannada folk song which actually was a spontaneous vocal melody that sprang out of nowhere on a bed of a latino chords progression that Anirban played for me during one of the RDP jams long back and now this song finds a place in the movie. I should definitely mention Anirban as the co-composer of this whacky song.

The next 20 days is crucial for RDP is many ways…the road ahead is really the last leg….till we reach for a beautiful view…and then yes, we move on to the road ahead yet again…and the journey continues. Hop in…we sure do have space for you too.

    Hey Raghu,

I heard the song ‘Mahadeshwara’ today on radio. It instantly clicked for me. What with the amazing chords and the energy in the song. I’m yet to buy the album but I’m sure I’ll head straight to the music store. This song is a radical change from the ‘normal’ that we get to hear these days. Hey, who’s the vocalist for this song?

    Raghu Raghu Raghu,

Maadeshwara song is awesome. I had seen you on a Kannada TV channel a year and a half ago, but then did not think of you after that. Your music of Physco is superb also your singing in Michina Oota is very impressive. Just felt like a fresh breeze in otherwise stale recycled music that KFI has got itself into.

All the best. I wish you get lot of projects in KFI

    Hi Raghu,

I’m a friend and a school mate of Gaurav Vaz… me and a colleague of mine were discussing about your band RDP and its members while heading to office about a week back….. that’s when we heard your song Mahadeshwara on radio…… me and my colleague instantly recognised that it was your voice….. It was quite a coincidence….. untill I read this blog I never knew that u were doing music for a movie….. on this note I must mention what Nikhil Chinnapa said on MTV SELECT that your voice is so distictive that one can make out that it is you and that you dont require any mike or loud speakers….. amazing brother….. I wish you all the best…..

between I would like to tell u something more important…. one of my good friend who is also a very close friend of Gaurav is now in Germany… He had promised Gaurav that he would buy your album as soon as it was released…. I’m disapponted to tell you that I searched for the album almost for a month and more but could not find it in any of the music stores…. this was probably more than 2 months ago…..
I wonder why it’s not available and I could not send your album to my friend in Germany….. But i’m happy that guys around the world do listen to your music which is simply amazing…..
Thanks to U and the internet…..

    Hey Raghu,

I just loved the feel of Neene Nagu. Am yet to listen to madheshwara, but I’m sure that’ll be great too. (By the way, I’m originally from Pune but in Bengalooru for last 9 years. This is my home now and I consider myself a Kannadiga and follow all the good Kannada music very closely).
I love the way you use the electric guitar. I play guitar myself, so know a bit of the nuances. Absolutely stunning sound !! Keep up the good work. Hope that you’ll maintain your distinctiveness and not get lost in the rat race.

    All the very best.

    Hi Raghu,

Firstly I would like to congratulate you for entering kannada industry. It is pitch battle for you, where we only hear contemporary music. I feel your work should create a new wave in this industry. But the challenge is with in industry and reaching your music to all genre. These are kind of creativity which need good marketing values. I always like to listen music something in similar lines to ‘neene beku’. The song is absolutely pretty well composed and sung well. Good job and wish success in your future projects.

    Hi Raghu,

Psycho movie songs are phenomenally good and for the first time I listen to them, It sounded to me like an western song, but I felt proud that our next crop to music director’s are there to break the traditional rules and make us feel proud in front of neighboring state guys…

Then I saw your photo in the BlogSpot and again for a surprise u resemble one of my friends brother RAGHUPATHI D. DIXIT… he used to be my senior in my schooling while I used to study in Mysore… He too was extremely talented like U..

I seldom listen to kannada songs, but u guys have proved that kannada music can be seductive…
No matter how stressed I am,Ur Voice turns me on…

I ve also heard abt a lot from ur Ex-room mate Soma…

    U guys ROCK MAN!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hey Raghu,

Ee tanuvu ninnade is the most sexiest kannada song that I ve ever heard….

Mahadeshwara is one of its kind…

I used to keep telling Soma, that “is it not a pain to share a house with a guy who is into music…”
    Now I understand…..
I need to reframe my sentence…
    It is not a pain,but a Pleasure….

    Hi Raghu,

First thing I wanna say thank you very much for giving a fabulous and fantastic music for the film Psycho. Yesterday only I listen to your song, I was very much impressed by ur composition and arrangements of the music. frankly I became a fan of u and I searched about ur earlier composition and I downloaded “Raghu with Love” pop songs. It was great to see such type of talent in the kannada Industry, I hope u continue the same work in kannada Industry. My friends Mahesh, Chetan, Imtiyaz, Nagaraj, Pritvi, Rohan. They all listen to these songs back to back. And at last I like ur photo which is printed on CD.

    Hi Raghu,

Lot of reviews on your good work lately, i guess you are over the moon.

Dude i am really happy for you, you certainly deserved all the accolades and attention you are enjoying at the moment. But this puts an added responsibility on your shoulders to come up with good work again and again. I love the language kannada but never been able to enjoy the movies and kannada music, but the scenario is certainly changing and catching up with the times. Off late there has been few good songs starting with Mungaru Male and you are an addition into the list of people who seem to be knowing the language and working on potraying its strength. Looking forward to some great songs from your end.

Keep up the good work dude !!!!!

    Hi Raghu,

Today I heard the song “Ninna poojegey bande mahadeshwara..”… it’s awesome!!! Right after listening to this song, I listened to all of the Psycho songs… It’s tooooo gud. Your composition is excellent. Your music is completely “hatke” from rest of the Kannada Music directors. You have great edge over other Directors as you believe in fusion. I wish you all the best for your future projects. “Psycho” will be HIT only because of your Music and “Mahadeshwara” song.

    Love your Music Raghu!!!

    Hey Raghu,

The first poster on this page.

Well, yes your songs rock! Your voice is unique & amazing, not to forget, very fresh!!

What disappointed me was the way the songs were shot. It’s a pity that such great songs didn’t get a good cinematographer. The song sequences look pathetic. I barely made it through all your songs, in the movie. It’s a pity that you chose this movie as your launch vehicle.

My congrajulations to you and your team… please keep on entertaining us with more such fab songs. I know for sure that a lot of hard work has gone in to deliver such technically brilliant songs.
